Excited to announce that Microsoft will be running my Idea Workshop for a select group of BizSpark startups in Johannesburg in early September. (Learn more about BizSpark here).
The Idea Workshop teaches entrepreneurs how create a great venture from idea to exit using the KoiCreate framework. The workshop is now in its fifth year and has been run by Microsoft, the Bandwidth Barn, the Innovation Hub, mLab, and Stellenbosch University to train hundreds of their entrepreneurs. More about Koi and the workshop here...
The workshop will also include a "Coffee with Neil" session on the last morning to give attendees a time to discuss their ideas indepth with Neil.
Details - all day in Johannesburg from 1st to 3rd September. If you would like to attend please talk to your Portfolio Manager about this, or drop Neil a line.
Microsoft BizSpark sponsored me to spend this week in Durban training entrepreneurs how to accelerate their business. We looked at new technologies and business models, at the strategies used by the best startups in the world to develop their businesses, at how to create a vibrant brand story for their ventures, and lessons from the martial arts for achieving breakthrough results.
On the last morning I invite people to come in early long before we start the workshop proper for “Coffee with Neil” to discuss their ideas in a more relaxed setting (thank you Jasper and Dave for bringing in your coffee machine!). Feedback from attendees of the workshop included “life changing”, “brilliant”, and “definitely a turning point in my business”.
If you'd like to be part of an Idea Workshop I'm running workshops in August in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and over three Saturdays in Stellenbosch - more here.
Is your startup stuck? Come learn from me how to craft a breakthrough strategy to take you to the next level.
This fast-paced masterclass will help you uncover your company's key strategic challenges and teach you the KoiCompass framework for crafting, refining and executing a bold new strategy to move you forward.
I will be drawing from my experience of cofounding two startups both of which were acquired (by Datatec and VISA), and working with Microsoft and leading incubators to coach some of the top startups in South Africa, as well as my background in consulting with corporates, advising the CSIR on commercialising their research, and serving on the SiMODiSA government-industry task force for entrepreneurship in SA.
Johannesburg Wednesday 23rdth June | Cape Town Tuesday 29th June
UPDATE: the Cape Town Idea Workshop has been moved back a week, to 20-22 August, due to me being laid low by a killer virus. Apologies for any inconvenience! Please note too that the workshop will now be held at Microsoft's offices in Pinelands.
I will be running two Idea Workshops in August with Microsoft BizSpark:
- 6-8 August in Johannesburg
- 20-22 August in Cape Town
You will be interacting with other entrepreneurs while using the KoiCompass framework to create a comprehensive strategy for your venture, all while learning firsthand from someone who has cofounded two highly successful startups and who now coaches some of the top startups in South Africa. I'm excited to be running the development track of Microsoft's big YouthSpark Event in Cape Town on 7th December which is expected to draw hundreds of young people in their twenties or just out of school.
YouthSpark is free but there is limited space - so it is first come, first serve! Young people can register here for the event.
I have been running the workshop for several years now in Cape Town and Pretoria via the Bandwidth Barn and The Innovation Hub and I'm excited that now Microsoft will also be providing it to entrepreneurs through their BizSpark programme.
If you would like to apply for a place on the workshop please drop me a line at email@example.com.
Thoroughly enjoyed running another Idea Workshop this week at The Innovation Hub in Pretoria (above, some of the graduates).
The Workshop teaches entrepreneurs how to discover and develop a great idea that can 'change the world', and I'm looking forward to seeing these graduates do just that!
