Spent this morning with Elize Hattingh at the Karoo Cafe Farm in Pretoria. Elize has a Masters in Sustainable Development from the University of Stellenbosch and is at the forefront of the green movement in SA. Her Green Talent venture helps job seekers and entrepreneurs to make green career decisions and existing practitioners to improve their skills through further training and forums.
Elize also recently localised the Roots of Success sustainability training programme for South Africa and is presenting it at the Karoo Cafe farm. The programme is designed to prepare young people with 21st century skills in sustainability-related career fields such as Sustainable Development, Water and Waste Management, Green Building, Energy Efficiency, Health Food and Agriculture, Transportation and Community Development, as well as Leadership and Ethics and Financial Literacy.
The Karoo Cafe Farm, owned by Elize's family, is also a fascinating place to visit. Elize and her family are using it to spearhead a number of green initiatives and programmes, and it is a showcase of sustainability. It's well worth visiting its excellent coffee shop and artist's craft area, and having coffee with Elize, if you are in search of green inspiration!
